Project: Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church Project
The Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church Congregation and Pastor Scott Strohm had serious concerns about their failing slate steeple roof and the high probability of slate from their historic church hitting pedestrians and/or cars. Russell Roofing created and implemented an innovative design with specifications using 20-ounce copper (instead of slate) that was chosen by the Church and Architect. Russell Roofing executed that design, displaying outstanding craftsmanship with highly professional, skilled workmen. We custom-fabricated and installed a beautiful Celtic Cross to the top of this magnificent steeple and gave it to the Church.

Project: Tabernacle of Faith Church Project (Link to Picture 2)
Tabernacle of Faith Church in Camden, New Jersey was faced with the seemingly impossible challenge of restoring their Church buildings, which date back to 1868, in an economically-distressed city. The courage, commitment and active capabilities of reverend Pastor Hillman Moses, Floyd Wiita and other members of the congregation convinced us to enter into the partnership of replacing the roof and ornamental copper roof details. It was a monumental feat that required the combined team effort of Grant, The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, and members of Russell Roofing. We worked closely with members of the congregation who had installed the asphalt shingle roof once the complex copper cornice and copper flashings had been completed by Russell Roofing. This unorthodox arrangement resulted in a high quality project which satisfied all preservation criteria, while keeping the cost within a limited budget.

Project: Mount St. Joseph Convent is a local landmark within Philadelphia’s historic Chestnut Hill. (Link to Picture 3)
The project entailed a myriad of roof system types and slopes such as: various ornate trims, cornice and soffit profiles, challenging dormers and window projections, prominent chimneys, shaft ways, gable skylights, a mission bell tower, and an aesthetically-enhancing and functional drainage network. Each of these facets set the 110-year-old facility apart from commonplace architecture. The integral roof type consisted of clay mission tile, clay flat tile, flat-standing seam copper, Vermont Slate, EPDM, and custom pyramid skylights. Russell Roofing assembled a highly proficient team to remove, restore and replace more than 100,000 square feet (9290 m2) of various roof systems at diversifying slopes and elevations while the facility was fully occupied.
